Performance Rowing

Scottish Rowing is committed to improving the performance of Scottish rowers as part of our ambition to include more Scots in GB rowing teams. To help with these aims the Association has formed a Performance Group (PG) with the following remit:

1. To support Scottish athletes on GB pathways to enable more Scots to take part in GB International crews at the World Championships and the Olympics with particular focus on 2012.
2. To support Scottish athletes capable of winning medals at the Commonwealth Rowing Regatta with a particular focus on 2014.
3. To provide guidance on the selection policy for the Home International Regatta and to nominate selectors to select the team against the policy.
4. To provide support, knowledge and guidance to both coaches and athletes in order to maximise potential hopefully leading to excellence.

Performance Group

In order to improve communication and integration with key partners, the new Performance Plan establishes a Performance Group, led by Scottish Rowing, which shall oversee the management and co-ordination of the Performance Plan in Scotland. The Group shall aim to meet monthly (bi-monthly during the off season).

Role of the Group

1. To review and update the current Rowing Performance Plan
2. To manage the delivery and development of the Rowing Performance Plan
3. To ensure that all parties have clear roles and responsibility
4. To ensure that all resources are directed towards targets
5. To set selection criteria for support services provided through the Institute of Sport network
6. To nominate athletes for selection based on the determined selection criteria
7. To deselect athletes based on their failure to meet the determined selection criteria

Membership of Group

Objectives of the Performance Plan

1. Provide clear performance pathways to GB representation that map onto and align directly with published and emergent GB plans
2. Provide support and development opportunities to Scottish athletes with the potential to represent GB
3. Provide support and development opportunities to Scottish high performance coaches
4. Provide a structure to allow full integration with the Scottish Institute of Sport and the Area Institute of Sport networks
5. Work with Sportscotland through the Scottish Institute of Sport to increase the levels of Performance Staffing within Scottish Rowing
6. Provide guidance to the Scottish Rowing Performance Group which will oversee the delivery of the Scottish Rowing Performance Plan

Team Management

Scottish Rowing have a management team who will deal with the day to day logistics of the Scottish International teams. Scottish performance pathways will give opportunities for rowers to progress to GB pathways when appropriate. The Home International Regatta is seen as the first step in the Scottish Rowing performance pathway to both Commonwealth and GB selection.

Trials and Assessments

GB France Match Information
GB v France Selection Trials will be held at NWSC on Sunday 28 June 2009 and the GB v France J16 Match is at Cardiff, Sunday 12 July 2009. Entries for the selection trials must be completed on the spreadsheet and emailed as an attachment to richard.boulton@growing.org.uk. Closing date for entries is NOON FRIDAY 19 JUNE 2009. All enquiries regarding the GB v France J16 Match should be made to Richard Boulton on 07802 982 915 or at richard.boulton@gbrowing.org.uk.
