The SARA are committed to improving the performance of Scottish rowers as part of our ambition to include more Scots in GB rowing teams. To help with these aims the Association has formed a Performance Planning Group (PPG) with three main objectives:
1) To bring on the performance Scottish rowers to a level that enables more Scots to take part in GB International crews at the World Championships and the Olympics with particular focus on 2012.
2) To be capable of winning medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games should rowing be included as a sport.
3) To provide support, knowledge and guidance to both coaches and athletes in order to maximise potential.
The Performance Planning Group
The PPG will be responsible to the SARA executive for the selection of International teams and the assessment of rowers who require funding and support from Sportscotland and the SARA. The PPG will include SARA Performance coaches, representatives from GB Rowing and Sportscotland and when appropriate input from the Scottish Institute of sport network. Each year a selection strategy will be published by the PPG which will includes performance standards that will be required in order to achieve Scottish selection or funding.
Scottish performance pathways will give opportunities for rowers to progress to GB pathways when appropriate. The Home International Regatta is seen as the first step in the SARA performance pathway to both Commonwealth and GB selection.
Team Management
The SARA have a management team who will deal with the day to day logistics of the Scottish International teams.
