Commonwealth Regatta: Plenty of exciting racing today, with Scotland winning four more medals, including two golds. Full results, including split times, for both days are online in pdf format, along with the medals table. Scotland were fourth overall, behind England, South Africa and Canada, an excellent result for Team Scotland.
The first race of the day was the men's lightweight fours, where South Africa, winners of the heavyweight fours yesterday, again dominated. They were followed by the women's lightweight single, which was won by Canada. The Northern Irish sculler overtook the English sculler in the last 500m to claim the silver.
The lightweight doubles gave Scotland their first medal of the day, with the Logan brothers in the Scottish crew. They gave a dominant performance to add the gold medal to their Nat Champs and HIR medals, leaving the English and Welsh to fight for the silver and bronze medals. No Scots in the women's lightweight pairs, which was won in an exciting race by Northern Ireland, coming from behind to take the gold ahead of the English pair.
Second Scottish medal of the day went to the men's coxed four, who took silver behind England, comfortably ahead of Wales in bronze medal position. Women's quads was a two boat race, with the boats close all the way down. England won from Canada at the line. The men's lightweight scull race split into two groups early on. South Africa won, ahead of Northern Ireland and England. Doug Murray of Scotland sculled strongly to close the gap on the leading three and finish in fourth place.
The women's lightweight double were back in action today, after their silver medal win in the lightweight quad yesterday. England led from the start, with the Scots chasing Canada hard, and wining the bronze medal. Fourth medal of the day came in the men's lightweight pair. Dave McNeill and Dougie Taylor put in their usual strong start and then pulled away from the field to take a convincing victory ahead of Northern Ireland and England.
No Scottish crews in the final eights races, but some exciting racing. There was added interest in the women's eight in the form of an Australian/Canadian composite, racing as a guest entry. The Welsh eight blasted off the start, but were overhauled at midway by the English crew, who led to the finish. In the men's event, the race for gold and silver was tight, with the boats only half a length apart approaching the line. Canada took the gold, with England second and Wales third.

Commonwealth Regatta Results: Another major regatta has come to Strathclyde Park, and again conditions have been favourable with mainly warm, sunny weather and a slight tailwind. On day one of the regatta, ten races took place, with Scotland medalling in four. The full results are online.
There was no Scottish interest in the first two races of the day, where England took the gold in the women's double scull, with a dominant performance. In the men's single, New Zealand's Nat Cohen took an early lead, but was pressed strongly by England's Ian Lawson in the final 500m. The first of the Scottish crews were the women's pair of Steph McDowell and Ellie Dorman, who have already won gold at Nat Champs and HIR. They were ahead of the home nations throughout the race, but were unable to catch the Canadian pair who took gold 4 seconds ahead of the Scots. In the men's coxless pair, South Africa's World and Olympic medalists, Cech and Di Clemente, led from the start, to take the gold medal.
Scotland had crews in both the men's and women's lightweight quads. In the women's race, the Scots put in a massive push to try and catch the English crew, but despite reducing the gap, finished in the silver medal position. The men's race was incredibly close all the way down. At 500m, the English held the lead, with the Scots close behind and the Welsh gaining. In the last metres of the race, the fight between Scotland and Wales was intense, with the final result being Wales silver and Scotland bronze, by a mere 0.02 seconds.

No Scots in the women's single or men's double scull. The women's race was won by Rachel Loveridge of England, gaining her second gold of the day, ahead of Wales's Rebecca Rowe. The men's double was also won by England, with Northern Ireland picking up the silver medal. The penultimate race of the day was the men's coxless four. South Africa were a class act, leading from the front, with a crew who are doubling up between lightweight and heavyweight. There were a few steering issues from the New Zealand four, but fortunately they did not impede any of the other crews. Canada and Australia took the silver and bronze behind South Africe, with the Scots in fifth place. In the final race of the day, the women's coxless four, England and Canada battled all the way to the line, with England crossing in front. Scotland rowed strongly to win the bronze medal, well ahead of the Australian four.
Day two features five more Scottish crews - the Logan brothers in the lightweight double, the women's lightweight double of McGarvey and Chalmers and men's lightweight double of McNeil and Taylor, both winners at HIR, along with the men's coxed four and the men's lightweight single.
