Scottish Rowing Awards Dinner: After a knackering season for athletes, coaches, team managers, officials and administrators alike, it’s time to celebrate what was achieved - which was a lot! Healthy participation at clubs and regattas, significant performances at the Henley’s, Nat Champs and HIR, a record medal haul at the Commonwealths, and Scots featuring in Silver and Bronze medal wins for GB at the World Championships.
In addition to celebrating these high level performances, the Scottish Rowing Awards also recognise the endeavours of the worker-bees who create the foundations upon which the top performance can be built. The coaches, treasurers, minute-takers, social secretaries, fund raisers and myriad other contributors to Scottish Rowing.
This year’s Scottish Rowing Awards Dinner takes place the magnificent banqueting chamber in the Town House, Aberdeen on Saturday 4th November – the day of the Aberdeen Fours Head. The City of Aberdeen have given SARA welcome drinks and free use of the venue as Civic Hospitality in recognition of the sport’s success at the Commonwealths. Sparrows Offshore have sponsored the trophies. This has allowed the price to be kept down to £35 for a four course meal.
The venue is strictly limited to 120 places, so early booking is advisable. A PDF file of the poster for the dinner is here and has details of how to buy your ticket.

Scottish Rowing Awards: Nominations close this Friday 6th October. A steady stream of nominations has been reaching SARA Administrator, Jo Ramsay, but it’s so easy for a worthy nominee to get missed because “everybody assumes everybody else will have nominated them”. called the Lane Trophy. The original cup was a jollyboat trophy presented to Portobello Rowing Club by Jock Lane. If anyone has every heard of the trophy, remembers it being presented or displayed or knows anything about where it may be can contact Iain Somerside. This information is very important to the Lane family.
