North East Regatta: The draw and timetable for the North-East Regatta are now on-line on the Committee of the Dee website.
British Universities Regatta: The draw for the BUSA regatta, being held from Saturday to Monday at the National Watersports Centre, Nottingham, is available on the Concept 2 website. Around 50 crews from Scottish universities are taking part, including Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, Robert Gordon and Strathclyde Universities.
Castle Semple Regatta: Information for this regatta, being held on Saturday 19th May at Castle Semple Loch, is now available - regatta notice, conditions of entry, events list and entry form. Please note the amendments to the entry form and list of events from the ones sent to clubs. This year Mens and Womens R2 coxed quads and WJ14 sculling events are being offered. Entries close at 9pm on Friday 11th May.

Rules of Racing: The SARA Rules of Racing have had a minor amendment approved at last month's Half Yearly Meeting. The change relates to the certification requirement for entries under Rule B2, to reflect the buoyancy position in the Water Safety Code and further confirms club responsibility in this matter. The rules can be found on the Downloads page.
Rowing Action: The deadline for the next issue is 30th April - if you have any news, information or articles, please send them to Ailie Ord as soon as possible.

North East Regatta: Snapper Ron would also like to remind clubs that entries for the North East Regatta close on 29th April (details on the CofD website).
TSG Barony Cup: Following the introduction last year of the TSG Barony Cup with 8s racing between Strathclyde University Student and Graduate crews the 2007 event is going to be held this Saturday with the first race taking place at 4pm. As last year, this event is kindly sponsored by IT Support Company TSG and will involve men's, women's and mixed 8's crews racing over the 1.5km course on the River Clyde. All spectators welcome on Saturday.

There was a new record entry for the championships with over 100 crews and over 530 students taking part. There was a first ever fours entry from Glasgow Caledonian, the biggest boat entry before having been a pair. The racing was hotly contested especially in the eights where in 1st mens eights four boats crossed the line seperated by less than a length.

Strathclyde Park Regatta: Results from the Strathclyde Park Regatta and the Scottish Universities Championships are now available. The weather over the weekend fortunately remained mostly dry, but conditions were affected by a cross-wind which varied from benign to vicious!
20 April
Strathclyde Park Regatta: Due to last minute cabling problems the new Regatta Office is not quite ready so competitors are asked to check in at the boat bay closest to Water Sports Reception. Everyone must remember to check in at least an hour before their race time - failure to do this may mean being excluded from their race. The Regatta Office will be open at 7.30am on Saturday and 7am on Sunday.
Edinburgh University Regatta: Information is now available for the Edinburgh University Regatta on Saturday 26th May on the EUSU website. Please note that the correct closing date for entries is 12 noon, Friday 11th May.

SPR Draw: The draw team would like to note that due to the complexity of the entries is it unlikely that they will be able to make any changes, however, they would like to remind all competitors to arrive in plenty of time to check whether any changes have been made to the final timetable.
Boat Hire Form: Applications for the hire of NRA fleet boats for SPR should be submitted as soon as possible and no later than 6pm on Wednesday. The form may be downloaded here.

Gent Spring Regatta: Junior rowers from ASRA and George Watsons College have been racing this weekend at the Gent Spring Regatta in Belgium - full results are on the regatta website. Medals were won in 8 events: ASRA winning silver in the MJ16 2x and WJ18 2- and bronze in the WJ16 1x and WJ18 2- and George Watsons College winning gold in MJ16 4- and MJ16 1x and bronze in MJ18 1x, MJ16 1x and MJ18 4-.
GB Trials: A number of Scots have been racing today in the GB Senior Trials at Hazewinkel. Results so far are on the BIRO website with finals due to take place on Monday.
St Andrew BC Regatta: The first regatta of 2007 went ahead in glorious sunshine on the River Clyde yesterday. Full results are uploaded and photographs are likely to be available shortly (both Snapper Ron and Niall Darroch were busy with their cameras during the day). The honours in the invitational races held at the end of the day both went to Clyde ARC, winning by two feet in the Race for the Bent Rigger and a length and a half in the Silver Rudder Race.
TSG Barony Cup: Following the introduction last year of the TSG Barony Cup, with 8s racing between Strathclyde University Student and Graduate crews, the 2007 event is going to be held on the afternoon of Saturday 28th April. As last year, this will involve men's, women's and mixed 8's crews racing on the River Clyde. The crews will be competing for the TSG Barony Cup - with the competition including the 3 races over the 1.5km course. There are still a few spaces to be filled in both the men's and women's graduate crews, so if there are any Strathclyde graduates who are wishing to take part please contact Fiona Stuart.
Licences: With side by side competition about to get under way, Sandy Walker would like to remind competitors that they should have their licence card available for punching if required at events in which they compete. Failure to produce a card may result in a prize being withheld.
St Andrew BC Regatta: The first regatta of the year is being held this Saturday on the River Clyde. Racing is due to start around 11am, with the St Andrew/Clyde invitational Bent Rigger and Silver Rudder races taking place at around 3.15pm. The draw and timetable of racing should be available here later today.

Snapper Ron at Tideway: Scotland's own Snapper Ron was at the Men's Eights Head and his photographs are now published on the Committee of the Dee website. The photos include shots of the GUBC Novice 8 returning an awful lot of water back into the Thames! They can take some consolation from the fact that the Leadaner lightweights (crew 14), with Scotland's Dave McNeill at number 2, only just made it through Hammersmith before they had to be bailed out (despite their pump!).

Volunteers required for FISA WU23 Regattta: An updated version of the volunteer letter, including important information regarding kit etc, is now available.

Regatta Entry Reminders: Reminder that the closing date for entries to the first two regatttas of 2007 are Sunday 8th April for the St Andrew BC Regatta on the Clyde and Wednesday 11 April for SPR. Full information for both regattas is on the Events and Results page.
Coaching Course Date Change: The UKCC Level 2 Rowing Coaching Course scheduled to run on the weekends of the 12th/13th May and 19th/20th May, will now take place on the 2nd/3rd June and 9th/10th June; the new closing date is 2nd May. The SARA apologies for any inconvenience.

Tunis Lake Regatta: A summary of results is now available on the FISA website. The Scottish contingent came away with two medals: Bonny Logar (aka Jonny Logan) winning gold in the mens lightweight single and Bonny and Gareth 'Larry' Syms finishing second to the home Tunisian crew in the lightweight double.
Fours Head: The Fours Head website has details of rule changes to the entry process for the Fours Head 2007.
2 April
Licence Requirements: Sandy Walker, Convenor of Racing Control, would like to remind clubs that a licence number is required AT THE TIME OF ENTRY for SPR. If clubs/competitors cannot supply a licence number when submitting an entry they will be required to purchase a Day Ticket.
Glasgow Three Heads: The head race scheduled for next Saturday has been cancelled.
Men's Tideway Abandoned: The Head of the River Race due to take place on Saturday was abandoned during the first division after 10 or more of the first 44 boats either sunk or were totally swamped! The only Scottish crew to race, Aberdeen BC, made it safely to the finish line. Fortunately the Veteran Head, held on a shortened course on Sunday, went ahead with no weather problems.
Tunis Lake Regatta: Jonny Logan (Clyde ARC) and Gareth Syms (George Watsons College RC) are currently in Tunisia representing Scotland at the 2nd Tunis Lake International Rowing Regatta. The regatta runs over 2 days this weekend and will see them compete in Lightweight Men’s Single and Double Sculls. International competition will be provided by crews from Italy, England, France, Belgium, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Libya, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, Togo, Somalia, and Tunisia, the host country. Full results when they are available.
