Nat Champs 2007 Report: Friday's racing was beleagured by the weather - a ferocious tail wind affected morning racing, with waves lapping over the end of the pontoons. Racing was suspended as a rain storm hit, restarting two hours later, only to be suspended again due to thunder. This meant changes to the junior races, with time trials being run early on Saturday morning to replace heats and repechages due to have taken place on Friday afternoon.
Fortunately Saturday produced good, if rather wet, conditions with a light tailwind leading to some fast times. Wellies and flipflops were the footwear of choice, and those heading to the Trent for training outings found it running high and fast, and had to play slalom with some rather large logs heading downstream! Nottingham was fortunate to have just caught the edge of the bad weather affecting southern England, and there were many tales of crews arriving from badly affected areas, with homes and boathouses under water.

Sunday morning brought dry conditions overhead, but wetter conditions underfoot as the lake level rose several inches over the pontoons. The wind swung round to a cross-head of reasonable strength, but the webmaster's sunburn will attest to the fact that the sun really did shine in the afternoon!
Scottish seniors and juniors won a good number of medals, with Sunday lunchtime proving the most popular medal winning time, with two golds, two silvers and two bronzes all within an hour. Full results are now on the Nat Champs website.

GB-France J16 Match Results: At the J16 match held today in Nottingham, nine Scottish athletes raced their French counterparts. The girls quad, from Strathclyde Park RC, won their event and the girls eight, containing four rowers and a cox from George Heriots School RC, finished just one length down on the French crew.
GB Junior Squad Selection: Some great news from the GB junior squad trials. Following 5 days of GB final trials at Nottingham for selection to the World Junior and Coupe squads, three Scottish rowers, Sean Dixon, Murray Wilkojc and Alistair Sarahs, all George Watsons College BC gained selection. Sean Dixon will race in Beijing, China, as part of the 8+ crew at the Junior World Championships. Murray Wilkojc and Alistair Sarahs will head to Varese, Italy to take part in the Coupe de la Juenesse; Murray as part of the four and Alistair as part of the eight. Correction: Two Scots win at Henley: Colin Williamson, ex-Aberdonian rower, was in the Leander eight who won the Thames Cup. His win no doubt owes something to the bagpipes being played for his crew as they rowed up the course to the start line!
There were also two Scots in the GB U23 women's eight which lost out to the senior GB crew in the semi-finals of the Remenham Cup - Stephanie McDowell (Aberdeen University and ex-George Heriots School) and Kirsty Myles (Oxford Brookes and ex-George Watsons School).

Scot wins at Henley!: While there were no Scottish crews racing today at Henley Royal Regatta, there was one Scot still racing. Having lost to the Army in last years Britania Challenge Cup final, and battled through to the final of that event again this year, Andrew Wilkinson of York City RC, an ex-George Heriots School RC club member, was in the winning crew this year, beating Henley RC by one length.
6 July
Scots at Henley: The competition proved too strong for the remaining Scots crews today. Aberdeen BC went out by 5 lengths to Tideway Scullers, and the Logan brothers lost to the Slovenian internationals in the Double Sculls by just over 3 lengths.
5 July
Henley Results: In yesterday's first round of the Temple Challenge Cup, Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities both sadly lost their races. Better news for Aberdeen Boat Club today, progressing to the next round in the Mens Quads; they will race Tideway Scullers tomorrow morning. Also racing tomorrow morning will be the Logan brothers in the Double Sculls, who have drawn Spik and Cop, the Slovenian internationals, in their first race.
