Inverness Eights Head: Details and an entry form for the Inverness Eights and Small Boats Head on 21 February are now available.

EUBC Open 8 Scottish Rowing Junior Development Camp: Information for the junior development camp on 14/15 February.

Licences: Can all licence contacts please note that a licence number is required AT TIME OF ENTRY not a couple of days before an event. From now on Sandy Walker intends to take a firm line in this regard and if a competitor cannot produce a licence number at time of entry then they will require to pay for a Day Ticket. Sandy notes that he no longer intends to provide licence numbers at short notice because some regard it as an afterthought and will enforce the rule for future regattas and heads.

Glasgow Western Head Results and Photographs: Results from Division 1 and Division 2. Photos of every crew in the second division of the Western Head are now online at www.darrochphotography.com as well as GUBC's Burns Supper held in sponsors WEST brewpub. GUBC Western Eights Head: The Western Eights Head went ahead yesterday on a shortened course on the River Clyde, with a challenging new start line just upstream of the Sewage Works Bend. There were some close victories, with the Edinburgh and Glasgow University men's crews finishing just one second apart in the second division, which should lead to some close racing in their Boat Race later in the year. In the women's events, the Clyde and Co. composite were quickest down the course, ahead of their neighbours from Clydesdale/St Andrew. The furthest travelled crew in the event, Aberdeen Boat Club, were suitably delighted with their victory in the Women's Novice race, ahead of the winners of the University Women's Novice race, Glasgow UBC. Full results should be out soon.

Western Head Update: Following river inspection and much discussion, it has been descided that the race is still on. This will be dependent on the volume of rain overnight and how the river reacts to it. There will need to be another inspection in the morning. If there should be a cancellation, GUBC will do its best to contact everyone ASAP.

GUBC Western Eights Head: The River Clyde is running high this morning which was unexpected. The organisers will be taking a look this afternoon and will make a decision this evening after speaking to contacts up-river. Any further updates will be posted here.

Scottish Rowing Medal Redesign: Calling all artists! The Domestic Regatta Organising Committee are changing the supplier of the medals for Strathclyde Park Regatta and the Scottish Championships and so have the opportunity to redesign these medals at the same time. There are a few simple requirements that the design must meet, but apart from these, everything will be considered!

1. Should include the name 'Scottish Rowing'
2. Must have a gap or loop for ribbon
3. Must have space somewhere for engraving the event and year, e.g. WNov 4+ 2009
4. For the Scottish Championships, designs are needed for Championship, Intermediate and Schools events

The manufacturer of the medals is Running Imp - some examples of what is possible are available on their website. Please submit any ideas to Ailie Ord by Sunday 8th February. For more information, contact Ailie. The new design of the medals will be selected by the Domestic Regatta Organising Committee shortly after the closing date.

For reference, examples of the current SPR and Scot Champs medals are below (higher resolution pictures are available from the webmaster).

Scottish Rowing Umpires: Congratulations to Emma Fisher and Doug Cameron, both from Aberdeen, who passed the Umpire's exam last Saturday. Scottish Rowing is looking for new recruits to the umpires' ranks, and would be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a trainee umpire, including those who are rowing supporters, such as coaches, parents and 'retired' competitors. If you would like to find out more, contact Sandy Walker or Peter Morrison (your club secretary will have their contact details).

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Licences: Competitors are reminded that Competition Licence renewals are now due except for those who already have a 2009 card. Competitors entering a regatta or head are required to submit a licence AT TIME OF MAKING AN ENTRY and failure to do so will render the competitor liable to payment of a Day Ticket. All are reminded that the closing date for the first event in 2009 is 18th January so licence contacts in the clubs do not have much time to get organised if they intend entering this event.
