GB v. France Match: George Heriots School sculler Jack Leask recorded an emphatic win in the boys quad scull event at the 29th GB v France match held in Cardiff Bay on Sunday. The crew finished some 4 lengths clear of their French counterparts in extremely challenging conditions that elsewhere in the day saw one boat completely sink and another capsize. Racing was suspended for a period while FISA officials assessed the weather and made the decision to continue with the programme as planned. In spite the strong cross-winds Jack went on to win his reserve singles race by a comfortable 2½ lengths. The GB Team won both the boys and girls matches and lifted the overall trophy with a points advantage of 9 to 4. Jack is a member of the Clydesdale-based group of the World Class Start programme which is sponsored by Siemens.

GB Junior Trials: Following five days of Junior Men's trials in Nottingham, two Scottish Junior oarsmen have been selected for crews to represent Great Britain this summer. Andrew Holmes, George Watson's College, has been selected for the coxless four at the Junior World Championships in August. Callum McBrierty, also of George Watson's College, raced consistently well over the 5 days to secure a seat in the coxless four for the Coupe de la Jeunesse. In addition to Andy and Callum's selections, Rosie Young of Strathclyde Park Rowing Club has been selected for the junior women's coxless four at the Coupe de la Jeunesse.
Boat tranport guidance: This document is the latest guidance on boat transport negotiated between the ARA's lawyers and the Association of Chief Police Officers. It has been issued to police forces UK-wide. Even so, it may be that some traffic police may not be aware of the detail contained in it. It is therefore a smart move for anyone transporting boats either on a roof rack or on a trailer to carry a copy of this guidance with them.
