Future Looking Bright For Scots On GB Pathways: Report from Lee Boucher:
An excellent fortnight for Scotland’s Great Britain team aspirants was concluded at the weekend with the GB Rowing Team Junior Trials held in Boston, Lincolnshire. On Saturday, in a strong field of 58 male scullers, Scotland proudly boasted 3 athletes in the top 15, with Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club’s Kieran Brown finishing in an impressive 3rd place in his first season trialling. Kirstin Allan, also of Clydesdale, was the top Scottish female sculler, finishing in 26th position. Scotland’s top juniors continued to flourish on Sunday, despite the overnight snowfall which brought about sub zero temperatures. George Watson’s College pupil, Callum McBrierty, rowing with Eton College’s Caspar Jopling, stormed the 5000 metre course to finish in 2nd place in the coxless pair. Brown, rowing with Glasgow Schools’ Gavin Murty, continued his good form with a 5th place finish in double sculls event.
At Dorney Lake in Buckinghamshire the previous weekend, Olympic silver medallist, Katherine Grainger, led the way as Scotland’s top senior athletes enjoyed a successful weekend at the GB Rowing Team Senior Trials. Glasgow born Grainger, representing St Andrew Boat Club (Edinburgh), produced one of the stand out performances of the day, with a dominating victory in the women’s single scull.
Scottish based athletes were involved across each of the 5 categories with the lightweights enjoying the most success. Kelly Limond (Strathclyde Park RC), recorded a remarkable 2nd place in the A final of the women's lightweight single scull despite being under the weather with illness. Clyde's Imogen Walsh won the B final, posting a time which would have placed her third in the A final. Glasgow Rowing Club’s lightweight single sculler, Sam Scrimgeour, a student at Strathclyde University, finished 10th (4th – B final) in a competitive field won by Olympic gold medallist Zac Purchase. Two Scottish athletes currently training in England finished inside the top 10 in the men’s coxless pairs category. Leander Club’s Alan Sinclair (from Inverness) just pipped 2009 Junior World Champion, Andy Holmes (from Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire), finishing in 8 th place, less than half a second ahead of Holmes.

- Bicycles, owners unknowm, some in bits. Would the owners please reclaim these and remove them as soon as possible please? They will remain in the shed until the Half-Yearly Meeting on 7th March. Thereafter they will be parked outside in the Scottish Rowing trailer. If they remain unclaimed by Sunday 28th March they will be dumped. If anyone has a (very) good reason for keeping their bike at the Park, please share it with Tom Hewitt and identify your machine to him.
- A pair of Matt Wood sculling riggers. If unclaimed by the Half-Yearly, they too will be dumped.
