Licence Punching: At last weekend's regatta at Castle Semple only around 40% of those who should have, presented their licences for updating after winning qualifying races. If the card system is to operate as designed it is essential that licences are available when required. 40% is frankly not good enough. The conditions of entry for next month's Scottish Championships make it clear that racing licences MUST be presented for updating at the presentation pontoon. Failure to have cards available may lead to medals being withheld.
Commonwealth Regatta Selection: Athletes seeking selection for the Commonwealth Rowing Championships are reminded that they must register by Wednesday the 2nd June by completing the online form at ScotlandRegistration.notlong.com. The Scottish Championships will serve as the main selection regatta for the teams for both the Commonwealth Rowing Championships and the Home International Regatta. Any athletes or coaches with questions relating to selection or to the Scotland Teams in general should contact the team manager, Graeme Cunningham. Athletes and coaches are also advised to consult the selection policy documents that are available on the International Page.
National Schools Regatta: 23 junior crews from clubs around Scotland are racing at the Nat Schools Regatta in Nottingham, from Friday to Sunday. Further details on the NSR website.
Lost and Found: Missing from the Scottish Rowing Centre is the Number 3 sweep rigger from one of the Centre's 60kg 4+/4x+ boats. Its maker is Len Neville and it carries the serial number 99779. It has probably been left behind when the boat was used for racing away from the Park. Could clubs' responsible managers please take a look around their storage areas and see if it is among the odd riggers that all clubs seem to accumulate? If you find it, could you please contact Tom Hewitt on governance@scottish-rowing.org.uk or on 07973 498066. Two lost souls in the Centre are a pair of sweep riggers, by the looks of them belonging to a coxless pair. Again, they are Len Neville's work and they carry the serial number 93227. If this matches with a boat in your club, again please contact Tom as above.

McBrierty on track for Worlds target: Report courtesy of Rob Eyton-Jones:
Edinburgh rower Callum McBrierty is on track for his goal of winning August’s World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic after helping Britain see off Europe’s best teams in the Munich Junior International. The 17-year-old George Watson’s pupil won a gold medal in the coxless four and a bronze in the coxed eights.
“In the four we beat three German crews, as well as crews from Spain, the Czech Republic and a Russian crew,” said Callum, who arrived back in Edinburgh yesterday after a lengthy delay caused by the volcanic ash cloud. “Our main rivals are the Germans and it was close between first and second places, something like 0.4 seconds. Then there was a good drop off after that of six or seven seconds between second and third.”
Munich provided a perfect mid season gauge for Callum and the British teams as they prepare for the World Junior Championships. Britain has a strong track record in the event and won last year’s coxless fours’ event; the victorious team included Lochwinnoch’s Andrew Holmes, a then George Watsons pupil. “Munich is effectively the mid season regatta which all the European countries send a bunch of boats to, to see how they compare,” said Callum who has been supported by the East of Scotland Institute of Sport this season, benefitting in particular from injury prevention work with the physiotherapist.
“Our top four is looking very good this year and the weekend showed that at the moment we are ahead of the German teams. When it comes to World Championships we are going to be racing that crew that we managed to beat. The Germans are always up there and have strength in depth in their squad with consistently good results in all boat categories. So it’s really good to beat them, especially in the coxless four, which is their main event and the one they enter their top boat into.”
Following Higher exams which start next week, Callum heads to England as part of the British team for another regatta. “We are going down in three weeks just after exams to race the senior universities and clubs in our four,” he added. “It’s ambitious but hopefully we will manage to beat them.”
