Clyde Head: The updated draw for the Clyde Head is now available.

Scottish Indoor Rowing League for Schools: Scottish Rowing is pleased to announce the launch of the Scottish Indoor Rowing League for Schools, in partnership with Concept2. This competition is for teams of four or eight and is open to pupils from Primary 7 right through to S6. There is even a category for adult teams incorporating staff and parents so everyone can get involved.

There are 5 monthly challenges between now and April and prizes will be awarded to the category winners after all 5 challenges have been completed. An entry into the Scottish League automatically enters you in the Concept2 national league and allows you to compare your scores with teams from the rest of Britain and Ireland and beyond. Scots In Action at GB Rowing Team Senior Trials: Last weekend saw Boston in Lincolnshire host the first GB Rowing Team trial of the season and there was strong representation from Scotland with 16 athletes competing across all categories. In the heavyweight men’s division, Alan Sinclair (Leander Club) was the fastest finishing Scot in 12th place ahead of his former Aberdeen University and Aberdeen Boat Club crewmate Colin Williamson (Queens University Belfast) who came home 15th. Sean Dixon (Leander Club) won the battle of the ex George Watson College pupils in 21st position, in front of Callum McBrierty (Durham University – 33rd) and Murray Wilkojc (Blue Star - 35th). Aberdeen Boat Club’s Gary Wilson finished in 56th place and Clydesdale’s Michael MacLaren was 69th.

Former Clydesdale athlete Karen Bennett (Molesey Boat Club) was the top Scot in the women’s division finishing in 11th place. Glasgow University student Ruth Dunn (20th) came home just ahead of her Clydesdale clubmate Claire McKeown (23rd), who in turn was one place ahead of Iona Riley (Aberdeen Boat Club). Strathclyde Park’s Natalie Irvine was 28th. Whilst Clydesdale’s Gavin Murty (Lwt 2x at the 2011 World Rowing U23 Champs) was missing through illness, Kieran Brown (Edinburgh University) was the top placed Scot in 24th position, followed by James Scott (Heriot-Watt University) in 29th. Heriot-Watt’s Gregor Hall was 46th and Andrew Crowe (Edinburgh University) 49th.

Running alongside the GB Rowing Team trials was the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Small Boats Head. James Scott and Gregor Hall of Heriot-Watt University took gold in the lightweight men’s double scull whilst Callum McBrierty was part of the Durham University crew which took the corresponding heavyweight title.

World Rowing Awards: Peter Morrison as been short-listing for the FISA 'Distinguished services to World Rowing' Award - further details about this can be found on the World Rowing website. The winners will be announced in Varese on the 11th November.

Strathclyde Park Restrictions: There will be no rowing at Strathclyde Park on Saturday 5th November because of preparations for the bonfire and fireworks display taking place there that evening. You will not be able to get boats back into the Park if you take them away. Boating on Sunday 6th will be difficult.

Glasgow Fours Head: The Glasgow Fours Head of River will be held on Saturday November 5th. As usual there will be two 5km races, at 11:30 and 14:00. A pdf poster, along with the list of events and notes: and the full race information is on these pages: www.glasgowrowingclub.org/Events/2010_4s_head. The on-line entry system will be available for 10 days before entries close. Entries close on Sunday 30th October.

Aberdeen Head Weekend: Notifications of forthcoming HOR races are coming in thick and fast!
The Aberdeen HOR weekend - Fours on Saturday and Small Boats on Sunday, takes place on 12th & 13th November. Entry details, maps, course instructions etc are available on the Committee of the Dee website - http://cofd.co.uk. Entries close at 10pm on Sunday 6th November.

Scottish Rowing Awards Dinner: This year's Scottish Rowing Awards Dinner will take place at The Mercure Hotel, Inverness (until 31st September known as The Ramada Jarvis Hotel) on the evening of Saturday 19th November. This has been planned to coincide with the Inverness Head weekend. The dinner will comprise of a four-course meal plus tea/coffee. There will also be some ?entertainment? prior to and during the dinner. Tickets for the dinner are £35/head and can be obtained by completing the attached Booking Form and posting it to Alistair Neill (address is on the form) along with a cheque for the appropriate amount. Dress code for the evening will be black tie preferred, or Lounge Suit.

We will not be providing 'Tickets' per se, but following the lead of low-cost airlines, we will be issuing e-mail confirmation letters. However unlike low-cost airlines we will NOT charge to cash your cheque, and if you forget your confirmation letter, we will not charge you an exorbitant fee for a replacement on the night.

The Mercure Hotel in the middle of Inverness, a few minutes walk from the train and bus station and 30 yards from the River Ness. A special room rate of £67.00 for a single room and £70.00 for a double room has been agreed with the Hotel. This rate also includes the use of the Hotel's gym, pool and sauna. All room bookings should be made directly to the hotel - when booking please remember to say that you are attending the Dinner.
