Scottish Universities Championships

  
 
 

Final positions in the Victor Ludorum for the Championships were as follows.

1. Edinburgh University346 6. St Andrews University 105

4. Heriot Watt University 200  9. Glasgow Caledonian University 1
5. Strathclyde University 116     

There was a new record entry for the championships with over 100 crews and over 530 students taking part. There was a first ever fours entry from Glasgow Caledonian, the biggest boat entry before having been a pair. The racing was hotly contested especially in the eights where in 1st mens eights four boats crossed the line seperated by less than a length.

Further Results from BUSA: In Sunday afternoon's 500m sprints, Edinburgh University women won bronze in Novice Four and Silver in Championship Eights. On Monday, Steph McDowell and Liz Crighton of Aberdeen University BC won the gold in Womens Championship 2x.

Edinburgh University WChamp4 Results from BUSA: No official results yet, but in the first day and a half of racing at BUSA Scottish crews made it through the rounds to several finals, including Championship finals in Mens and Womens 4+, Mens Lightweight 2x and Womens 2-.

Heriot Watt University ML2x Silver medals were won by Aberdeen University (McDowell) in Womens Junior 1x and by Edinburgh University in a sprint for the line, in Mens Junior 4+ . Bronze medals were won by Heriot Watt University in Mens Champs Lightweight 2x, Edinburgh University in Womens Champs 4+ and by Glasgow University (Buesher) in Womens Novice 1x. On Sunday morning, Glasgow University added the bronze medal in Mens Freshers 8. Conditions on Saturday were relatively benign, with only a mild head wind to contend with. Sunday proved to be a different story, with a strong head wind resulting in at least one mid-race capsize, one crew managing to visit all the lanes (including lanes 0 and 7) and kit stall owners spending most of their time securing their stands!

Universities Winter League: After two events the positions in the Universities Winter League are as below. Last years winners are very much in contention to retain the trophy. Hopefully recent loss of equipment does not stop them from keeping up the pressure on Glasgow.
