Message from Lochwinnoch: All at Castle Semple RC would like say a big “Thank you” to all who supported our regatta on Saturday. There was huge entry and competitors were very accommodating by working round any boat and cox clashes. A special thanks to the Umpires who got the regatta running back on time by working through the first break and kept good spirits despite the problems caused by the wind, your efforts are greatly appreciated. Finally, if any club has 3 extra seats now then could you please get in touch with Castle Semple RC as we have lost 3, also EUBC are looking for a missing mobile phone. Thanks again and hope to see you all again next year.

Aylings-Lola demonstator boats: Strathclyde Park Rowing Club have recently taken on the role of demonstrating Aylings-Lola boats in Scotland. They currently have in stock a stern coxed four/coxed quad for an 85Kg crew from the Champion range.
This demonstrator boat is available for use at Strathclyde Park by anyone that wishes to try it out. It is in the SPRC boat bay and any requests to try it should go to SPRC not SARA. Any crews who would like to try it out at any regatttas which SPRC are attending (Castle Semple, Scot Champs, Nithsdale) can contact Peter Barton on 07834 491460 or Tom Hewitt on 01698 458480.
SPRC have also recently bought a bow-loader coxed four (75Kg) and two pairs/doubles (60 and 70 Kg) from the AX4 range plus two 60 Kg Champion singles. They are happy to answer any questions on their experience with these boats if people are considering them.
Aberdeen Boat Club swamped by rowers: Aberdeen Boat Club, which is hosting the 20th running of Britain’s largest community rowing event, the Sparrows Offshore Aberdeen Inter Company Row, has been so overwhelmed by entries for this year’s challenge that a formal waiting list has had to be set up for the first time. “We normally limit the entry to 36 crews, which represents 144 complete beginners to the sport, for quality reasons – we want to ensure every competitor enjoys a great introduction to rowing” says club captain, Bill Burnett. “This year we received 43 entry cheques and had at least another dozen companies expressing interest, so we had to act fast.”
Aberdeen BC was able to commit to extending the event to 40 crews, but no more. The remainder are on the stand-by list in case of cancellations. Training starts immediately and passers-by will see the ‘rookie’ crews on the River Dee any evening or weekend when the tide is in between now and 25th June – the date of the Aberdeen Inter Company Regatta, which is sponsored again in 2005 by Sparrows Offshore Services.
The Inter Company Row is important to Aberdeen Boat Club for several reasons – as a recruitment initiative, as a revenue earner for club funds, and as a link to the local community. Malcolm Wilson, chief operating officer (Europe) of Aberdeen-based Sparrows Offshore who sponsor the event, says “We’re delighted to be sponsoring an event which is obviously a growing success. Colleagues who took part last year assure me it’s the best team-building exercise ever, which makes it an ideal association for any business.”
