SARA Forward Plan: The SARA Forward Plan has now been accepted by SportScotland and is available on the downloads page. It outlines SARA's focus for the next four years as well as specific aims and objectives. It is a working document and emphasis may alter as circumstances change. SARA's ability to deliver depends on funding and especially on the willingness of rowers in Scotland to get involved in SARA and assist in doing so for the benefit of all. There are many ways to get involved — training as an umpire, training as a coaching tutor, being on the Executive or its various sub-committees. Please contact Alison Harrison or the committee chairman for more information.

World Masters Volunteers: For all those who have volunteered to help at the World Masters Regatta, the list of names and allocated tasks is on-line. If there are any problems or queries, please contact the FWMR administrator, Gillian Davies.

Scottish trailer unloading: Gary Bain and the trailer will be back at Strathclyde Park around 7pm this evening (they've made up time on the road). Could all of those with boats etc on the trailer, please go along to the Park to help with unloading and also please ring around crew/club mates to ensure they know when the trailer is due back.

Forgotten something?: The Nat Champs website has a list of racing licences left behind at Holme Pierrepont, including some from GUBC, SUBC and Clydesdale.

EUSA Results: Scottish students rowers come away from the inaugural European Unis Championships with a clutch of medals. In the Womens Pairs, the Glasgow Caledonian crew gained silver. The Glasgow University M4- fought through a tough field to grab a dramatic second place, beating the GB crew in the process. Strathclyde University's ML4- finished fifth, as did the M2- who raced in heavyweight pairs despite being a lightweight crew, holding third place for the first 500m until being pulled through.

In the GB Universities team, Glasgow University was represented by two crews. The GUBC womens crew were unnoposed in WL4-, so chose to race at open. After a controvertial race from a free start, the jury decided on a re-row later in the day in which the GUBC crew finished just outside the medals in fourth. The lightweight Logan brothers took on some mighty opposition in the Mens 2x. Their race was also attended by controversy, as terrible conditions meant that a free start was again used; the double finished in fourth position, just missing a medal.

This event was attended by teams from ten countries, and many were composed of the National Under 23 squads, so the small Scottish Team did well to come away with medals. Alan Easson, Team Manager, reports that the European Championships will be held every two years (alternating with the World Student Championships), and the 2007 edition will take place in continental Europe.

World U23 Champs: Racing in Amsterdam over the weekend, Gavin Shaw (Aberdeen Uni) and lightweight doubles partner Ben Tipney (Leander) missed out on a place in the semi-finals by just under a second. Gavin is supported by SportScotland.

HIR Results: At the Home International Regatta in Cardiff, Team Scotland finished third overall in the senior mens, senior womens and junior mens matches. The Scottish junior women had a terrific match, to finish equal on points with England and only lost out on the overall title on count-back, following a late disqualification of the Irish boat in the very first event.

Scotland Womens Junior 4- During a day of terrific racing, with many close results over the Cardiff Bay 1500m course, Scotland had three wins in WJ4-, WJ4+ and ML 2x and second places in WL 2-, WJ 1x, MJ 2x, W 4+, WJ 4x and M 4x.

Final day at Nat Champs: Senior and junior crews were involved in repechages and semi-finals this morning. There was some exciting racing, including the Mens Lwt 2- rep, where two Scottish crews raced, St Andrew/Strathclyde winning the rep and Clyde also qualifying for the final. In the Mens 2x, Castle Semple and Glasgow University battled for the third qualifying place, with the lightweight GUBC crew clinching it in the final 500m. In WJ 1x, West of Nithsdale fought for a finals spot, finishing in third place in her semi final and moving to the final. There are now 16 senior crews and 18 junior crews from Scottish clubs (including a few of Scottish origin rowing for other clubs) rowing in the finals which start at 11.30 today.

First honours go to Strathclyde Park Rowing Club. Carla Santoni has picked up the silver medal in WJ14 1x, and was followed in the next race by Andrea Santoni, winning bronze in WJ15 1x. George Heriots have medalled twice in 10 minutes in the J16 4+ races, the girls four winning gold and the boys four winning silver - special mention to the WJ16 4+ cox, Colm Doig, who was racing for the first time! Lots of close racing in the coxed quads, with a very close finish for the Heriots/Watsons composite WJ14 4x+, missing out on bronze by just 0.3 seconds. George Watsons have picked up another medal in MJ14 4x+, a bronze this time.

Senior finals will be starting soon, and there will be live commentary from the Rowing Service.

Last update before I head back to Scotland. In the junior events, George Watsons/Canford WJ 4x have picked up the silver medal, Strathclyde Park/Castle Semple MJ 2- of J Barton and D Shankland have won the gold medal in a storming race, George Heriots WJ 4+ have also won gold with a sprint to the line. The pair have since gone on to win silver in MJ 4- with T Malley of George Heriots and F Quinn of SPRC. In the senior events, gold medals have been won in MLwt 2x (Jonny and Chris Logan of Glasgow University) and WLwt 2x (Fiona Struthers and Maureen McGarvey of Strathclyde Park). The Logan brothers were unlucky in the Mens 2x event, loosing out on bronze by a mere 0.06 seconds.

Karina Williams and Polly Swann of George Heriots School have won silver in WJ 2-. In WLwt 2-, Glasgow University (Lucy Downie & Rebecca Quane) have won gold ahead of Clydesdale in bronze position.
