Junior Age Categories: Junior competitors are reminded that the reference point for the ages of Junior competitors is the 1st September preceding the event. This means that a Junior entering Nithsdale on 2 September and the remaining regattas in 2006 must add a year to the age used in the early part of the season. After 1 September it also means that the age shown on their 2006 card will be 1 year less than it should be.
More photographs: After a recent web-host change, the new and updated Committee of the Dee website is back to full operation. It contains over 800 photographs from National Championships and the Home International Regatta and will soon feature details of the next local event, the Aberdeen Sprint Regatta which will be held on Saturday 9th September.

Glasgow Argonauts Revived: A meeting has been held in the GU Union, hosted by former GUBC captain Tony Cassidy, to explore the possibility of reviving the Glasgow Argonauts club. This meeting was attended by former members stretching back to the fifties and sixties, as well as more recent GU members. A small working party has been formed with a view to sorting out a way forward and hosting a further meeting in September or October. The main thrust of any new Argonauts club would be to support Glasgow University Boat Club in whatever ways seemed practical.
Any former Argonauts or GU members interested in finding out more, or becoming involved, can register their interest at glasgow.argonauts@virgin.net - the working group would be glad to hear
from you.

Home International Regatta 2006: A fantastic days racing at Strathclyde Park yesterday. Team Scotland won a total of 10 events, with strong performances throughout the team. The junior men started the wins off with a win in the coxless four, which they add to their National Championships gold medal. This first medal of the day was swiftly followed by wins in both the men's and women's lightweight pairs, with the men overturning the results from Nat Champs. The junior women then put in a very strong performance in the pair to take second place behind a very impressive Irish team. The senior women's pair, also gold medalists at Nat Champs, added to their collection with a confident win in their race and were followed by the men's pair, finishing second in a very exciting race for the line.
Following the lunch interval, 'Scotland the Brave' was again being played, this time for the women's single scull. Not to be outdone by the pairs, the lightweight doubles were next up on the medal pontoon, with dominant performances by both doubles. The newly formed women's heavyweight double claimed second in their event, and the men's double, bronze medalists in lightweight doubles last week, held off the Welsh to gain their second place. The coxed fours gave us some excitement, with the junior men's four, winners in the Franco-British J16 match, battling for second place when one of their blade handles snapped, forcing them to finish the race with only two men rowing. The junior women's four claimed a second place, again behind the Irish, defeating a strong English crew. The women's coxed four put together a strong race to claim an 8th win of the day for Scotland.
In the final races of the day, crews were joined together for the quads and eights. The Irish junior women again proved unbeatable, however the Scots claimed second places in both the quad and eight, ahead of the English and Welsh crews. The senior women had a confident row in the eight to win again, securing the women's trophy. The women's quad gave us a very exciting finish, with a photograph needed to seperate them from the English quad - the result was a win to Scotland, by one bowball. The men's eight then rowed well to take second place in the penultimate race. Last race of the day, the men's quad, gave us an equally exciting race, with another photograph required to seperate them from the Welsh in a battle for second place; unfortunately, this time the verdict went to the visitors.
In the overall points matches, Scotland were victorious in the Senior Women's event and claimed second places in the Men's event and joint second in the Junior Women's event. Placing and points results are on the Rowing Service, full results including times are now uploaded.

HIR Preview: The Home International Regatta, between Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales, takes place at Strathclyde Park on Saturday. This regatta comes to Scotland once every four years and this year the Scottish Rowing Team is looking very strong, with 15 crews who medalled at Nat Champs taking part, including 9 of the gold medalist crews. There are 32 races overall, each counting towards the HIR trophies; having been just pipped for the junior women's trophy last year, Scotland will be aiming high.
The regatta starts at 11am, with the junior coxless fours, in which Scotland won the gold in both junior women's and men's events at National Championships. This is followed by the senior and junior pairs, including the women's pair gold medalists and junior men's pair gold medalists, and then by the lightweight and junior singles. After a short interval at 1pm, the remaining single scullers race. They're followed by the doubles, where Scotland is represented by the Logan brothers, double gold medalists at Nat Champs and defending HIR winners, and by Strathclyde Park in women's lightweight doubles, silver medalists at Nat Champs and winners at Gent Regatta.
The first of the coxed fours is at 2.20pm, and includes the men's J16 crew who beat France in the MJ16 eight at the Franco-British match earlier this month and the Henley Women's Regatta winning women's coxed four. The final events of the day are the quad and eights events, where the crews from the previous events come together to battle it out for the final points of the day.
All support is very welcome, and if you are also able to help out with stakeboating, timing or boat catching, please contact Ailie Ord (see yesterday's news for details).
