Faskally Training Camp: All forms for the Faskally Weekend (21st and 22nd October) must be received by Liz Dawson (Course Co-ordinator) by Monday 2nd October.

Glasgow Schools Totally Rowing: Do you have an hour a week to bring on the next generation of Scottish rowers? The SARA requires coaches to help deliver indoor rowing clubs as part of the Glasgow Schools Totally Rowing programme. The project in association with the Steve Redgrave Trust currently have ergometers in 29 schools within Glasgow and a huge number of enthusiastic children. SARA desperately needs additional support to continue to encourage the children in these schools. For further information, please contact Carrie McKenzie, SARA Participation Manager.

Stirling Rowing Club Centenary: Snapper Ron and the multi-President had a great time on Saturday 17th September being wined, dined and entertained at the splendidly-organised centenary celebrations at Stirling Rowing Club. The juniors put on a couple of quad races, the live band entertained us and the speeches were pleasantly brief! The display of historical memorabilia ranged from Victorian cups to a tankard won at the previous week's Aberdeen Sprint! Pictures are available on the Committee of the Dee website.

Clyde Head: Information for the Clyde Head on the 14th October is now available. The event will be held over 3km in 3 divisions - poster (pdf, doc), race information, safety information and entry form can all be downloaded.

Level 2 Coaching Course: Reminder that anyone wishing to attend the Level 2 Coaching Couse in October needs to apply by Monday 25th September. Full details below.

The course will be held on the weekends of the 28th/29th October and 4th/5th November. It may be necessary to include an additional evening to complete the capsize drill element of the course. Due to the need to register with the ARA and 1st4Sport (the cross sport accreditation organisation) it is important that anyone wishing to take part on the course completes an application form and forwards the course fee before the deadline of Monday 25th September. As there is some pre-course work that needs to be completed by each candidate and materials that need to be ordered in advance, anyone missing this deadline will not be able to attend the course.

The course fee is £250 (£195 of which is the course fee including all materials, levied by the ARA). Application forms are downloadable from this website. All forms and fees should be sent to Jo Ramsay at the National Rowing Academy, 366 Hamilton Road, Motherwell ML1 3ED. Any enquiries should be addressed to Kevin Watson.

Boston Marathon: George Watsons College Elite Octuple, containing a number of members of the Scottish Rowing Team, finished fastest in Sunday's Boston Marathon, over 10 minutes ahead of the next fastest boat. The Scots were out in force in Boston, with a win in MS3 1x (Glasgow RC) and second places in MS4 1x (GWC), MNov 1x (SABC), WJ16 2x, MNov 4x, WS3 4x+ (all GWC).

2006 SARA Awards: Reminder that nominations for this year's SARA Awards are now being accepted. Rules and the nomination form for this years awards are on the SARA Awards 2006 page.

Notice from Henley RC: Henley RC and HWR Entry Secretary Cathy Cruickshank has died, after a short illness. Her funeral is to be held on Monday 25th September at Reading Crematorium, All Hallows Road, Caversham, Reading, Berks, RG4 5LP at 11am. All are invited to join family and friends for light snacks and drinks at Leander Club after the service: blazer and club tie preferred. Family flowers only. Donations if desired to the Harry Mahon Cancer Research Trust, c/o Tomalin & Son, Funeral Directors, Anderson House, 38 Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames, RG9 1AG.

SARA AGM: The SARA AGM is being held at 1pm on the 19th November 2006 at Strathclyde Park and the following positions will be up for election.

Rowers Needed on Tuesday: SARA are looking for rowers who could be on the water or using the rowing tank at Strathclyde Park between 2.30 and 3pm on Tuesday 12th September. The National Rowing Academy is being visited by the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, who is inspecting potential Commonwealth facilities for the 2014 Games. If anyone is available at this time tomorrow, please let Iain Somerside know (tel. 07889 515620).

Stirling Rowing Club - Clubhouse Centenary Event: A reminder to all Stirling RC rowing friends that on Saturday 16th September 2006 Stirling Rowing Club will be open to all from 1pm to 4pm to celebrate the Clubhouse Centenary. Within the Clubhouse will be a number of displays featuring the people and events that have influenced SRC's history from the first recorded rowing race on the River Forth in 1853 to the present day. A children's corner will feature rowing games and puzzles for the young, live entertainment interludes will soothe your ears, tea, coffee and the usual array of (high cal, sticky, messy) goodies will be on sale along with goodies and drinks for the younger ones. The programme will commence at 1pm with the handover and raising of a new Club flag, the meeting room will be named the William Girvan room at 2pm to commemorate the late President and Honorary Life President William (Widdy) Girvan, Stirling Provost Colin O'Brien will arrive at 2.30pm and later at 3.45pm Provost O'Brien will present Centenary Day Certificates to all young members who will have demonstrated their boat skills from 1.15. to 3pm on the water (weather permitting). Please join Stirling Rowing Club for this celebration.

Addition to Head Race Calendar: Clyde ARC have been given approval to run a Head Race on the River Clyde on Saturday 14 October, replacing one of the cancelled head events. The race is likely to be held over 3km in 3 divisions. Further details and entry information will be available soon.

Silver Rudder Photograph: Race for the Silver Rudder. The Silver Rudder, raced for between Clyde ARC and St Andrew BC, was won by the Edinburgh club. This means the Easterners now forge ahead in this historical series.
