New Year Triathlon: There are a number of rowing clubs represented in the Edinburgh New Year's Day Triathlon (Clyde, St Andrew, Glasgow University and George Watsons College). Niall Darroch (Clyde) and Becca Freeden (St Andrew) along with a non-rowing friend, will be hoping not only to complete their first triathlon, but also to raise money for 500 Miles, a Scottish Charity that aims to provide support and care for amputees and other disabled people in deprived parts of the world. Donations can be made via the Just Giving website.

GB Senior Trials: At the weekend's GB Long Distance Trials held in Boston, St Andrew's Katherine Grainger led the field, finishing 14 second clear of her team-mates. She has also this weekend been awarded UK Sport’s award for fair play and inspiration. Full results from the GB Trials are on the Boston Rowing Club website.

International Rowing: On behalf of the Scottish Rowing Management Team, Lee Boucher would like to wish all athletes and coaches a very Merry Christmas. He asks that although the closing date for registrations for the HIR Team is a long way off, any athletes that are planning on putting themselves forward for selection send their registrations in as soon as possible. This will enable the new Performance Planning Group to easily communicate with both athletes and coaches. A copy of the selection policy for 2008 can be found on the International Rowing Page.

EUBC Calendar: Edinburgh University Boat Club are raising funds to buy much-needed new equipment by getting out their equipment! Members of the men's and women's squads have posed in a number of rowing-themed pictures by photographer Devon Walshe: blades, boats, in the club's Edinburgh boathouse on the Union Canal; all that's missing is their clothes!! The calendars go on sale for £10.00 from Tuesday 18th December 2007, with details on the club's website - http://rowing.eusu.ed.ac.uk.

Inverness at night SARA Rules of Racing: The updated (November 2007) Rules of Racing have now been placed on the downloads page. Novice crews in particular should note the change to rule E12. Please note that Rule amendments are not retrospective and that changes apply to racing after the date of the AGM.

Looking for a Christmas Present?: A single scull newly for sale on the Sales and Wants page.

Memorial tribute to Graham Duffy: For family and close friends, there will be a funeral service at Warriston Crematorium in the smaller chapel on Monday 10th December 2007, starting at 11:00am. Starting at 2:00pm on the same day, there will be a memorial tribute at The Mansfield Traquair (now a venue and formerly known as Mansfield Place Church), East London Street, Edinburgh EH7 4BL. The venue is by the roundabout at the foot of Broughton Street.

Graham was never overly fond of too formal attire. Therefore, rather than black ties etc, some form of traditional dress – kilt or tweed – or something otherwise comfortable will be perfectly acceptable.

Club Rowing Actions are now ready: Could anyone from Dumfries, Aberdeen, Inverness, Dundee, St Andrews or Stirling who might be in the Strathclyde Park area in the next day or two call in to the National Rowing Academy and uplift the magazines destined for these places - Ailie Ord would like to hear from any such volunteers please. Her plan is to go round the Glasgow clubs on Saturday morning, and she hopes that there might be a few representatives from the Edinburgh clubs through at the Park to collect theirs at the weekend.

Death of Graham Duffy: It is with great sadness that we must record the death of Graham Duffy of St Andrew Boat Club. It was after yesterday's obligatory Sunday morning outing, this time in a double scull with his friend John Munro, that he complained of feeling unwell while washing the boat down. He then collapsed and an ambulance was called but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Graham was a stalwart of the Veteran scene and had been a regular competitor at the World Masters regattas for more than 20 years, winning medals on many occasions. He even continued to train and successfully compete after having a quintuple heart bypass operation 10 years ago. He will be sadly missed.

Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as they are available.
