Glasgow 2014 - a legacy for Scotland: On 26th March, Mike Morrice will be attending a creative ideas development and networking event designed to help achieve what we all want from Glasgow 2014 – a positive lasting legacy for sport in Scotland.

The purpose of the event is to:
- Help Scottish Sports Association to make an intelligent, effective response to the Scottish Government’s 2014 legacy consultation;
- Gain information to help develop our own response for our sport;
- Share ideas across the sports sector about what we need from others and what we can do ourselves to help create this positive 2014 legacy;
- Make sure our views are heard by people with the power to make a positive difference.

The output from this event will then be shared with other influential bodies at a meeting held on 16 April, as well as feeding directly into the current 2014 legacy consultation. If anyone has any thoughts on this, please get back to Mike by the 25th March.

Strathclyde Park selected as 2012 Olympic training camp site: Scotland’s international rowing course at Strathclyde Park is one of 28 facilities north of the border to be included in the London 2012 pre-Olympic Training Camp Guide. These facilities are available for some thirty different Olympic disciplines, from archery to sailing, taekwando to wrestling, and will offer international teams the chance to complete their pre-London preparations in the days before the Opening Ceremony. Through the hosting of various top-class international events, including last summer’s under-23 World Rowing Championships, Strathclyde Park has built an enviable reputation as one of the top rowing venues in the world.

Stewart Maxwell MSP, Scotland’s Minister for Communities and Sport was at Strathclyde Park yesterday (Monday) to see the set-up for himself, and he said, “this is a fantastic facility that is truly world class. We want to use facilities like this to maximise the opportunities to bring business, tourism and foreign athletes to Scotland”.

Altogether over 600 facilities will appear in the Guide, to be published at the Beijing Games. It contains high quality elite sporting facilities right across the UK which will allow teams and individual athletes a great selection of venues from which they can choose to prepare for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Guide will be circulated to all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and National Paralympic Committees (NPCs). These organisations will then decide where they base themselves or where to send individual athletes to prepare and acclimatise for London 2012. Extensive details of the facilities will appear on a dedicated website showcasing the quality and variety of options throughout the UK.
