GUBC Western Eights Head: Glasgow University Boat Club invites you to its annual Head Race for eights, to be held on Saturday 24th January on the River Clyde. More information is available at the GUBC Website and the information pack may also be downloaded here.

River Clyde Debris: The debris has been removed from the bridges on the Clyde but the log at Millerfield Road remains and can be just under the surface at times. This presents its own hazard and rowers should take extreme care when approaching it as it is at a narrow and dangerous part of the river.

The River Ness at Christmas HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
This photograph of the River Ness and the Grieg Street Bridge at night is sent with the best wishes of Inverness Rowing Club to all in Scottish Rowing for a Happy Christmas and a Guid New Year. In the background may be seen the illuminated clock tower of the Old High Church steeple which was built in the early 1700’s before the Battle of Culloden

Floodwater and debris on the River Clyde: The Glasgow Humane Society have sent a safety notice for all River Clyde rowers.
Due to floodwater and high river levels large flotsam and debris is floating downriver, already some debris has blocked bridges and other places. Once the water levels drop and allow boating to continue rowers must take special care around Dalmarnock Road Bridge, the south pier of the bridge has an extremely large build up of debris and at Millerfield Road a large log is sticking out from the north bank into the river. The Humane society will as ever endeavour to remove these blockages as soon as is is safe and possible to do so.

GB Trials: Report from Lee Boucher on last weekends GB Trials.
8 Scottish athletes took part in yesterday’s 2nd GB Assessment for Senior & Under 23 athletes in Boston, Lincolnshire. With a number of the Beijing athletes returning to the fold, the standards were higher than the previous October trial. The standout Scottish performance goes to Alan Sinclair of Leander Club (and formerly of Inverness RC / Aberdeen University BC), who continued his excellent performances at GB trials this season, finishing in 12th place overall ahead of some big names such as Colin Smith, stroke of the Beijing silver medal winning 8+.
