Scottish Rowing is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Martin to the voluntary position of Junior Co-Ordinator and he will be responsible for leading the planning and implementation of a Junior Development programme for rowing in Scotland.

Mike began rowing at Dumfries Academy as a junior before moving on to Edinburgh where he represented St Andrew Boat Club.  A maths teacher, Mike has taught at George Heriots School, Abingdon School in Oxfordshire, and most recently since 2008 at Hutchesons’ Grammar School in Glasgow where he is currently the Senior Depute Rector.

At Abingdon School Mike enjoyed significant success as the Master i/c Rowing and Seniors (1st Eight) Coach during which time the club grew in profile, size and ambition.  During this period the Abingdon School programme won all the major school rowing events for eights and many of his athletes were selected to represent England, Scotland and Great Britain.  Mike has coached crews at the Junior World Championships for several years including a successful bronze medal for the men’s eight in 1996 at Strathclyde Park.

More recently Mike has held the post of Chairman of the British Rowing Junior Committee where he has worked to promote the growth of junior rowing across the UK.  He is looking forward to working with coaches and athletes across Scotland to help more athletes hone their skills, unlock their potential and enjoy a long and successful relationship with rowing.

Mike, who will be present at the upcoming Scottish Rowing Junior Development Camps, can be contacted as follows:
