COVID1928MAY

Scottish Rowing welcomes the First Minister’s announcement that Scotland is now moving to Phase 1 of the route map and in particular the inclusion of the extension to the current daily exercise guidelines to include certain outdoor sport activities.

We have been working closely with sportscotland and other Scottish Governing bodies of sport to work up our plans for how rowing activities can return as the lockdown eases and will continue to work closely with them over the coming weeks.

We are now able to publish our detailed guidance for Phase 1 which sets out the conditions under which rowing can take place and ensures participants who are able to row can do so safely and in accordance with the Scottish Government Guidelines. This Guidance can be found on our Covid-19 Phase 1 Guidance page.

Today’s announcement does not signal a return to rowing for everyone but represents an opportunity for those people who can access their own equipment without accessing club premises and do not need to travel far to use rowing as part of their daily exercise activities while observing the government’s physical distancing rules.

While the Phase 1 adjustments only mean a very small change for rowing at this stage, it is the first step of a longer-term process and we look forward to supporting our clubs on this journey as more types of activity become possible.

Finally, the support and the patience of the rowing community so far has been much appreciated and it is vital that as a sport we continue to support the wider public health agenda by taking a gradual and socially responsible approach to our phased return to rowing.
