ROWER RILEY BRINGS WORLD SILVER MEDAL BACK TO ABERDEEN
Aberdeen’s Iona Riley led the Scottish charge at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Linz, Austria, by claiming a silver medal.
One of five Scottish athletes competing at the Championships, 21-year-old Riley, a sports science student at Robert Gordon University (RGU), formed part of the women’s eight. She raced alongside Fiona Gammond, Rebecca Chin, Josephine Wratten, Yasmin Tredell, Fiona Schlesinger, Bethany Bryan, Nicole Lamb and cox Morgan Baynham-Williams.

Participants at the Scottish Disability Sport Summer Camp had fun trying out indoor rowing on Wednesday. John Blair of Scottish Rowing and Kirsteen Lyth of Castle Semple Rowing Club put 4 groups of children and young people through their paces with a 200m ergo challenge.

The Scottish Rowing High Performance Group and Executive Board have announced the Junior and Senior Teams to represent Scotland at the Home International Regatta in Nottingham on Saturday 27th July.

Edinburgh’s Polly Swann has completed a hat-trick of 2013 World Cup titles and claimed the overall leaders' bib at the World Rowing Cup in Lucerne.
The regatta in Switzerland provided the GB Rowing Team with their final chance to test themselves against world-class opposition ahead of next month’s world championships in South Korea. In total, the British squad won two gold medals and one bronze, along with the overall 2013 world cup trophy.

Rowers from University Rowing Aberdeen, a partnership between Aberdeen University, Robert Gordon University and Scottish Rowing took part in the world-famous Henley Royal Regatta last week in glorious sunshine and in front of huge crowds.
Iona Riley and Lewis McCue from Robert Gordon University and Gary Wilson made the 530-mile trip south to compete in crews comprised of British rowers looking to make the Great Britain Under-23 rowing squad this summer. McCue and Wilson raced in the Ladies Challenge Plate, which despite the name is for male crews just below a senior international level and Riley raced in the Rememham Challenge Cup, an event for international-standard women's crews.

On Sunday 23rd June Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association organised and hosted the 5th Aberdeen Inter-Schools Regatta which sees the wet start crews from their schools project race against each other. All crews had a maximum of 10 weeks rowing experience and raced each other in coxed quads over a 300m distance. There were 49 wet start rowers representing 6 Aberdeen City and Shire schools whilst the 100+ ASRA members had the rare chance to represent their own school with 7 crews representing 17 schools racing in coxed quads.

Scotland's Polly Swann won a gold medal in the women’s pair rowing with Olympic gold medallist Helen Glover at the World Rowing Cup at Eton Dorney this weekend. It was a great regatta for the Scots with Sam Scrimgeour (LM2-) picking up gold as well as Alan Sinclair (M4-) and Imogen Walsh (LW2x) getting silver. The first Glasgow Schools Rowing Championships for over 30 years was held on the Clyde over a 500 metre course last Saturday. Ten schools took part in six events with championships being won by five different schools. In the invitation eights event guests Albyn School beat Glasgow Schools by half a length.
Snapper Ron's plan for 2013 is to beat Willie Brown in the Mens Vet 1x at Scottish Champs. Unfortunately, the only thing that is foiling this plan is the disturbance of his training programmes due to having to spend time processing photographs.

The Scottish Rowing performance team are running a sculling camp on the 10th/11th August at the Scottish Rowing Centre. The camp is open to J16+ athletes who have experience of racing in a single. This is a new camp aimed at supporting the development of our most promising athletes, with a focus on keeping them training throughout the summer months.
