The first Coastal regatta of the season kicks off in just a few weeks’ time at East Sands Beach, St Andrews. Not only will this exciting event offer both Beach Sprints and Coastal Endurance disciplines but will also give athletes the opportunity to race in solo’s, doubles and quads in each event.

Last Saturday, in a fitting coincidence, International Women’s Day fell on the same day as the largest women’s rowing race in the world, WeHORR, at which Three Scottish clubs travelled back from London with pennants and medals in their bags. Fifteen Scottish crews made the journey to the Tideway, competing across the majority of categories, with universities, clubs, masters, juniors and beginners all taking part.

The second sets of trials of the season, the first of 2025 have been for our aspiring GB Internationals in the U19, U23/FISU, Senior and Para categories, spread across three weekends between Boston, Lincolnshire, and GB Rowing HQ, Caversham.

Six Scottish university clubs travelled down to Newcastle upon Tyne last Saturday to race at this season’s instalment of the BUCS Head. Sadly, an unpleasant weather forecast meant that the second day of racing had already been cancelled before the event had even begun, however, with some quick planning the organisers managed to move a small number of events onto the Saturday schedule.

We are pleased to announce that four individuals have successfully passed their exams and are now officially qualified as Multi-Lane Umpires. The preparation for this assessment is quite demanding, making this achievement even more commendable. As of January 12th, Scotland now boasts a total of 12 Multi-Lane Qualified Umpires. This milestone marks an exciting development, as over a third of our active umpires are now fully equipped with multi-lane qualifications, reflecting the growing expertise and commitment within our officiating community.

The Scotland Rowing Team selection policy documents for the 2025 Home International Rowing Regatta (HIRR) and the Home International Rowing Beach Sprints (HIRBS) have today been published for both Athletes and Coaches/Boat handlers.

Scotland Rowing Team Manager, Graeme Cunningham, has informed the Board of Scottish Rowing of his intention to step down after more than 17 years in the role.

Graeme has overseen the most successful era in the Scotland Rowing Team’s history, leading Scotland to nine team trophies across 15 editions of the Home International Rowing (HIR) Regatta as well as seeing in the introduction of the new HIR Beach Sprints (HIRBS) format and helping to deliver the Guin Batten Beach Sprint trophy at the inaugural event in St Andrews in 2022.
