Scottish Rowers Tackle the Tideway Events

Each year, to round off the Head Season, crews descend upon the banks of the Thames to take part in four Tideway events: The School’s Head of the River Race (SHoRR), Women’s Eights Head of the River Race (WeHoRR), the Head of the River Race (HoRR) and Vesta International Masters Head (Vesta). This year, 37 crews featuring athletes representing Scottish clubs took up the challenge.

In Memoriam – Anne McGhie

Scottish Rowing is sad to announce the unexpected death of Anne McGhie, wife to late husband and Clydesdale ARA and SARA ex-President James “Jimmy” McGhie (one of the 4 infamous Jimmies of umpire fame), and sister in law to the late Clydesdale ARA ex-President William McGhie. Anne passed away on the morning of 25th March, peacefully at home.

British Rowing CEO and Chair Visit Scotland

Scottish Rowing was pleased to welcome senior leaders from British Rowing to Scotland last week, as Chief Executive Officer Tom Solesbury and Chair Diana Hunter spent two days meeting with clubs, partners and university programmes.

The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between Scottish Rowing and British Rowing, while highlighting the breadth of rowing activity taking place across Scotland and the important role that clubs, universities and partners play in supporting the development of the sport.

Henley Royal Regatta to recognise the Scottish Rowing Championships as one of the UK’s leading competitions

Henley Royal Regatta has announced that it will formally include the Scottish Rowing Championships as an event whose results will be used in assessing crews for pre-qualification for the 2026 Henley Royal Regatta.

Scottish Rowing launches Rowing in Scotland: The Next Chapter - 2026 and Beyond

Scottish Rowing has today launched its new long-term strategy, Rowing in Scotland: The Next Chapter - 2026 and Beyond, setting out a vision for a safe, welcoming and thriving rowing community across the country.

Developed through consultation with clubs, volunteers, athletes and partners across Scotland, the strategy outlines how Scottish Rowing will grow participation, strengthen clubs and support performance success while ensuring the sport reflects the diversity and communities of modern Scotland.

Were You Part of Rowing at the 1986 Commonwealth Games? We’d Love to Hear From You!

This year marks 40 years since rowing featured at the 1986 Commonwealth Games at Strathclyde Park - the last time our sport appeared on the Commonwealth Games programme.

We know there are athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers out there who were part of that event, and we’re keen to get back in touch.

Scottish Umpires Selected for 2026 World Rowing Juries

Scottish rowers and coaches have, over the last few years, become increasingly visible in Great Britain teams at all age levels, from J16 up to the full senior team, and across both the classic flatwater and coastal disciplines. While the selection process for this year's GB rowing teams is still in the early stages, Scottish umpires who hold an International licence have already come to the end of their own selection process.

Scottish Rowing Commissions Independent Wellbeing and Protection Review

Scottish Rowing has commissioned an independent review of wellbeing and protection across the sport in Scotland.

The review will examine our policies, practices and culture to ensure they are effective in keeping everyone involved in rowing safe and that they reflect current best practice across sport and beyond. This forms part of Scottish Rowing’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement in wellbeing and protection.
