This year marks 40 years since rowing featured at the 1986 Commonwealth Games at Strathclyde Park - the last time our sport appeared on the Commonwealth Games programme.
We know there are athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers out there who were part of that event, and we’re keen to get back in touch.
Scottish Rowing is planning to mark the anniversary during the 2026 Scottish Rowing Championships, with the 1986 activities taking place on Saturday 6 June. This will include an anniversary reception and a ceremonial row past at Strathclyde Park. We’re also exploring the potential for an informal get-together on the Saturday evening to bring people together.
If you competed, coached, officiated, served as a stakeboat crew member, drove a launch, handed out results sheets, or helped in any way behind the scenes - this is for you.
We’d love to hear from you and hopefully welcome many of you back to the course this summer.

We’ve also recently started work on building a stronger picture of Scottish Rowing’s history as we look ahead to our 150th anniversary in 2031. Memories and material from the 1986 Commonwealth Games will form an important part of that story. If you have photos, programmes or other memorabilia you’d be happy to share, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
