Scottish Rowing welcomes lightweight rowing pathway announcement

Scottish Rowing welcomes today’s announcement from British Rowing confirming its intention to explore a self-funded international selection pathway for lightweight rowing from next season.

The decision provides an opportunity for lightweight athletes to continue aspiring to represent Great Britain, while recognising the changing international landscape following the removal of lightweight rowing from the Olympic programme.

The announcement also sees Scottish lightweight sculler Ben Parsonage selected to represent Great Britain in the men’s Development Team at the European Rowing Championships following his performances this season. We congratulate him on his selection and wish him every success at the championships.

Scottish Rowing looks forward to working with British Rowing and Welsh Rowing as the pathway is developed over the coming months, with athlete welfare remaining an important consideration throughout.
