EVENT TO RELAUNCH COMPETITION

Posted: 8 April 2021

Scottish Rowing and the Regatta Organising Committee are pleased to announce the intention to run an event for junior rowers at Strathclyde Park on the weekend of 5th/6th June 2021.

With Covid restrictions allowing for an earlier return to the water for junior crews, and in recognition of the short window that junior rowers have to compete within their junior age group, Scottish Rowing and the Regatta Organising Committee are working on plans for a fun, inclusive event for J14 to J18 rowers.

We are also working on plans for a possible second event at Strathclyde Park over the summer for the wider rowing community (as far as COVID restrictions allow) and we will be seeking views from members on the preferred timing and scope of this event.

We know that many junior rowers are only just returning to the water and this will be reflected in the event. it is our current intention that racing will be divided into sessions and we aim to provide two boat categories per session for each athlete to compete in - with an emphasis on smaller boats.

Please note however that this is not a normal year and these plans are subject to a number of uncertainties including:
• The detailed Scottish Government guidance for competition has not yet been confirmed;
• We do not know what general Scottish Government COVID restrictions will be in place; and
• Approval of the event and event plans by North Lanarkshire Council is required.

Given the degree of uncertainty and the event protocols that will be required to run an event safely, we will shortly be inviting coaches of junior athletes to an online session where we will present the planned format of the event for discussion.

For those considering attending, it is important to note the following:

Capacity to the event may be restricted by Scottish Government caps on event numbers, which are still to be confirmed, or constrained as a consequence of implementing other covid management protocols.

Competitors will be allowed to race in one session per day. They will be expected to attend for their session only and will be required to leave Strathclyde Park as soon as possible after racing.

Although Strathclyde Park is a public facility, no spectators (including parents) will be invited to attend unless acting in a supervisory capacity.
