In Belgium on the 12th & 13th April at the annual Gent Spring International Regatta, crews from the Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association won 3 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals over the two days of the competition.

A record 19 Scots will take to the water at the home of the GB Rowing Team this weekend aiming to produce strong performances and put themselves in contention for a place at the World Rowing and World Rowing Under 23 Championships this summer. Following a winter of open assessments on the water and the ergometer, the GB Rowing Team Senior and Under 23 invitational trials at the Redgrave-Pinsent Rowing Lake in Caversham will see the country’s top oarsmen and women undertake a 1,900 metre time trial followed by seeded semi-finals and finals to produce a clear ranking across each of the four main disciplines.

Scottish Rowers shine at Inaugural Senior British Championships.
A large number of Scottish Rowers competed over the weekend (19th/20th Oct) at the Senior British Championships hosted at Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham.

An apprenticeship programme to support former top-class athletes become coaches has been launched by sportscotland.
The Coaching Futures initiative will see eight sports employ a retiring or retired athlete who will use their knowledge and expertise to help develop and inspire the next generation of champions.

Clyde Valley High School is one of the newest schools in Scotland to take up rowing. A project initiated by Scottish Rowing and North Lanarkshire Council has been set up to offer a wider range of rowing participation opportunities, spreading the delivery of rowing in local schools.

The Scottish Rowing Coaches Conference 2013 was held at Edinburgh University's Centre for Sport and Exercise on the 5th and 6th of October. The conference was well attended by coaches from all over Scotland and we were privileged to have a great line-up of speakers who generously shared their knowledge and experience.

Advance notice of new format for 1x and 2-The Scottish Rowing Board has asked the Domestic Regatta Organising Committee (DROC) to run a pilot scheme that will operate a new format of racing for the 2014 Scottish Rowing Championships.
This new format aims to raise the profile of the Championships and provide a better, more competitive racing experience for all participants. The format has been used successfully at the British Rowing Championships and BUCS Rowing Championships.
