Due to incidents at recent regattas it has become apparent that not all clubs are properly adhering to the Water Safety Rules. While umpires try their best to spot any safety problems, it is, ultimately, the crews responsibility to ensure their boat (and crew) are safe to race.
Could coaches and club captains please ensure they have read the Water Safety Rules (http://www.scottish-rowing.org.uk/images/pdf_folder/Oct_2011_-_Water_Safety_Code_Policy.pdf) and pay particular attention to the Point 19, requirements for lifejackets for coxes, Bulky lifejackets are not allowed in front loading boats. If crews try to boat in front loading boats and the cox does not have an appropriate life jacket they will not be allowed to race.
