Hello and welcome to the start of the 2023-24 racing season!
Here at Scottish Rowing, we are very excited about the coming season, with lots of new people, ideas and initiatives in place it is shaping up to be a very exciting year indeed. Over the last year we have had several new team members join us, all bringing high energy and expertise to the table.
Over the course of this season, we would like to bring you quarterly newsletters with updates about all things rowing in Scotland. If you have any updates about upcoming events or anything that’s going on in your club, then send them through to office@scottish-rowing.org.uk to get featured in the next newsletter.

Kicking off the season we have Aberdeen Sprint Regatta happening tomorrow (Sept 2nd), good luck to all those competing!
Next up we have two Beach Sprints events taking place on the same weekend. The HIR Beach Sprints event will take place in Saundersfoot, Wales on the 9th of September. Good luck to Team Scotland! Simultaneously, the Saints Regatta Beach Sprints will be held on the 9th and 10th of September. If you’ve never experienced Beach Sprints we highly recommend you head up to East Sands, St Andrews to check it out.
Heading up to Aberdeen next, to Scotland’s own tideway, on the 28th and 29th of October for the Aberdeen Head of the River.
The Clyde 3 Heads will take place on Saturday the 4th of November this year. Let’s hope the river behaves for all of
our athletes.
On the 11th and 12th of November the greatly anticipated Caley Marina Fours and Small Boats Head will take place, with most of the racing community descending upon Inverness for the two-day event.
Following that we will have the finals of the Scottish Rowing Indoor Schools League at an in-person event with the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships on the 24th of November. This year taking place at Fettes College, Edinburgh. Last years Schools League was a great success, and we hope to have the same again.
Then it is back to the river Clyde to round us off for 2023, at the Clydesdale Scullers Head on the 25th of November.
One of the barriers faced by many rowers is the price of Kit. The initiative will be simple following the sportscotland Kit for All Campaign, which aims to provide sports kit to those who need it most, including people who live in deprived or low-income areas.
When your club signs-up to be a part of the Kit for All Initiative you will receive a donation box and toolkit to use. People will donate kit that they no longer use into the designated box at the club and then when a new person is joining, or someone needs some kit that cannot afford it, they can take from the donation box.

The Scottish Rowing AGM will take place on the 1st of October 2023.
The AGM is attended by two representatives from each member club and a formal notice of the meeting will be emailed to clubs on the 8th September.
There are currently two vacancies on the Board, for a Director of Development and a Director of Coaching. Matt Taylor, Scottish Rowing President is also standing for re-election. If you believe you have the relevant experience and want to discuss either of these positions, please get in touch at office@scottish-rowing.org.uk. Nominations for any of these posts should be submitted by clubs to Scottish Rowing by the 8th of September.

We know there are plenty of fun and interesting photos that our members capture, whether that’s during events, out on the water or of our animal companions. Starting now we are going to have a Photo of the Month competition.
Each month will have a different theme. A small committee will choose four photos each month to be finalists and then you, our rowing community, will vote on your favourite. The winner of each month will win a Scottish Rowing Visor. At the end of the year the 12 winning photos will be voted on for Photo of the Year, which will be awarded alongside the Scottish Rowing Awards!
This month’s theme is: Best Race Face
We all know racing comes with some fantastic facial expressions and we want to see them, whether you’re on an erg or on the water we want to see your best race face!
Deadline for submissions: 24th September 2023
