The Scotland region team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (JIRR), held on Saturday 26th April at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. Competing against 13 other regions from across the UK, the Scottish team showcased their depth and talent across multiple events.
In just the second year at the event, Scotland fielded its largest team yet—74 athletes from nine clubs, fielding a crew in each of the regatta’s events —highlighting the growth and depth of junior rowing across the country.
All the athletes worked together to secure second place in the overall Victor Ludorum standings, behind Thames Upper. This achievement was bolstered by a dominant showing in the girls' events, where Scotland clinched the Girls' Victrix Ludorum title to bring home the Margaret Marshall Cup. The Boys’ team were a close 4th place, only 1 point between them and Thames London in 3rd.
Additionally, the eight Scottish athletes in the single sculling events gained 82 points and topped the standings to bring home the Barbara Wilson Cup. It was a close event with only 4 points separating the top three!
Scottish Rowing President and Junior Co-Ordinator, Mike Martin, said “Congratulations to all the young Scottish Athletes (all 74 of them) who raced on Saturday. In only the second year of our involvement in the event, crews made many A and B finals, raced with the best, and won a good number of medals. With athletes from Inverness to Dumfries on the team, it was a joy to behold. Well done to all and a big thank you to the organisers and the support teams!”
Scottish rowers amassed a total of nine medals: four gold, two silver, and three bronze. These medals were won by athletes from six of the nine clubs represented, underscoring the widespread talent across Scotland's junior rowing community.

With this strong showing at the JIRR, Scotland has set a high benchmark for future competitions. The team's success is a testament to the dedication of the athletes, coaches, and parents.
Scotland Team Manager, Cara O’Donnell, said “Watching the athletes on the day was a privilege—they all worked so hard and should be proud of their results, they are a testament to their clubs. I’m so grateful to all the coaches who help develop the athletes and who supported with all the organisation in the background; we’re incredibly lucky to have such committed people across Scotland. And a huge thanks must go to the parents too—you brought the atmosphere and cheered everyone on brilliantly!”
