Scottish Rowing is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Munro, Rector of Dollar Academy, as its new Non-Executive Director (Performance). Ian’s extensive experience in both rowing and educational leadership will be a significant asset, bringing valuable insights to the Board of Directors and direction to Scottish Rowing’s performance strategy.
Ian Munro is a graduate of Edinburgh and Cambridge Universities and holds several advisory roles across the education and arts sectors. In his leisure time, he is a senior RYA Instructor and enjoys sailing on the west coast. His career has been marked by a commitment to innovation, teamwork, and high performance - values that will enable him to make a meaningful impact on the development of the sport across Scotland.
Commenting on his new role, Ian Munro, Director (Performance) of Scottish Rowing, said:
"I am immensely proud to have been appointed to the Board of a sport that has taught me invaluable lessons in mindset, resilience, and wellbeing. At this exciting point in the evolution of the Scottish Rowing Performance Pathway, with an eye on LA28 and beyond, I look forward to supporting the growth and success of rowing in Scotland and helping to nurture the development of athletes at every level and from every background."
Dr Laura Graham, Chair of the Board of Scottish Rowing, welcomed Ian’s appointment:
"We are delighted to welcome Ian to the Board at such a pivotal time for Scottish Rowing. His combination of rowing experience and strategic leadership in education offers a unique perspective as we continue to evolve our Performance Pathway. Ian’s commitment to inclusivity and athlete development aligns closely with our values, and we look forward to his contribution as we develop our new strategic plan."
Ian joins the Board at a key moment, as rowing prepares to welcome the new ‘Beach Sprints’ coastal sculling discipline to the Olympic programme in LA28. With the development of Scottish Rowing’s new strategic plan also underway, his leadership will be instrumental in shaping an ambitious, inclusive high-performance pathway for both classic and coastal disciplines, aligned with the future of the sport both nationally and internationally.
