The Scottish Rowing Spring Regatta is back for 2026, bigger, stronger and more diverse than ever. Held at Scotland’s only championship course at Strathclyde Park, this central event of the rowing calendar is attracting more rowers than ever before. With clubs travelling far and wide, across the English border and south from the Highlands, Spring Regatta is packing more excitement, strength and depth of competition than ever before, showcasing the very best of rowing talent from across the UK.

This extraordinary event, held across 2 days, sees Scotland’s finest rowers battling it out for glory as they glide down the two-kilometre course in Motherwell. It is an all-hands-on-deck operation too, with volunteers, umpires and a catering tent to help the event run smoothly and healthily!

Building on that momentum, the 2026 edition of the Scottish Rowing Spring Regatta is seeing remarkable growth across every key metric. A total of 42 clubs have entered this year’s event, up from 34 in 2025, a significant 23% increase that underlines the regatta’s expanding reach and appeal. This surge is matched on the water by athlete participation, with entries rising from 680 competitors last year to an impressive 1,011 in 2026, marking a 48% increase and creating one of the largest fields in the event’s history.

The racing programme has also grown to accommodate this demand, with 185 races scheduled across the weekend compared to 159 in 2025, a 16% increase that promises a packed and highly competitive timetable. Depth of competition is further reflected in the boat classes, where entries in both the 8+ and 4- categories have doubled compared to last year, while strong growth is also evident across coxed and sculling fours, including 4+, 4x and 4x+ events.

Encouragingly, the regatta continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusivity and development within the sport. Female athletes now make up almost 53% of total entries, highlighting continued progress toward gender balance. Meanwhile, junior rowers account for 30% of the overall field, reinforcing the strength of the development pathway and the bright future of rowing in Scotland and beyond.

Featuring immense talent from across the British Isles, the regatta attracts amateur rowers and veteran athletes to Olympic aspirants alike.

With so many races, it can be hard to appreciate all the talent on display in one weekend. However, with so many new faces and returning champions, enjoy taking it all in from the banks of Strathclyde Park this April. Notably, Women’s Henley winners Ella Gildert and Polly Swaile, as well as a stellar crew from Edinburgh University Boat Club, will be competing this weekend. Further, talent from the Open category is rife. From Ben Parsonage of Clydesdale ARC in the Open 1x, Glasgow University’s new performance group in contention for the 4x win, to the Edinburgh University duel we will be treated to on Sunday afternoon, we are in for a treat this weekend. Not to mention, the incredible competition between Scotland’s immense junior section will be a constant thrill as fine athletes battle for Spring Glory. Masters rowing rounds it off, with the likes of Strathclyde Park Rowing Club, Aberdeen Boat Club and St Andrew Boat Club always putting on a good show for the crowds.

The countdown is on until racing begins bright and early on Saturday morning, and with the brutal winter training over, the stage is set for an incredible weekend of racing at this year’s Spring Regatta.

Scottish Rowing wishes all participating crews the very best of luck!
