Rio Regatta
The Rio Regatta is now Live!
This fun-filled, family event will take place at Strathclyde Park on the 24th of September. We hope that this event will be a great sign off to Project Rio and give all those who have learn to row this summer a chance to put into practice all they have been taught.
We will also be offering a wide variety of on land family friendly attractions including inflatable activities and a variety of food options.
At 11am the Row2Rio teams who completed the Row2Rio challenge distance will be at the event to unveil the names of the new GlideOne Training Single Sculls.
The event will have three opportunities to get involved:
The Skills Challenges
There will be three competitions running throughout the day of the regatta. All events will be run using 4 of our new fleet of GlideOne training single sculls and will feature a mixture of skills taken from the Project Rio session plans…with some added extras!
Come and Try
We will be offering some opportunities for people to give rowing a try for the first time throughout the day, or in a new boat type, with a mixture of tub doubles, our Swift Quintuple boat “Stella”, fixed seat coastal boats provided by the Sea Cadets and some of our new GlideOne Singles for those that wish to try the boats out or just practise for the skills challenges
Entries for races will open on the 1st September and clubs can enter appropriately crews made up of a mixture of new members and experienced members. The Skills Challenges and Come and Try events can be signed up for on the day as there is no set schedule.
250m Races
Throughout the day there will be a mixture of Tub Doubles races and Club Quad Races Short, informal races will be a great opportunity for those who maybe anxious about trying racing, to get the experience without the pressure and with some help of joining a crew of experienced rowers too.
There will be a maximum of 4 boats per race beginning with rolling starts and plenty of time between races for change overs of crews and warmups.Club quads will require an experienced coxswain and experienced rower sitting in bow of each boat.
There will also be some fixed seat racing happening throughout the day, showcasing the growing community of coastal rowing across Scotland.
The race Schedule for the day is:
All of the events are intended to give all people attending the event an opportunity to enjoy some short sprint racing and test out some of their boat handling skills. We think this will be a great opportunity for clubs to mix up squads and crews and get people mixing together, sharing experience and abilities and just enjoy some short racing.
Registration for water activities will be open throughout the day to register your interest for skills and drills and to check in your crew.
