This year marks 40 years since rowing featured at the 1986 Commonwealth Games at Strathclyde Park - the last time our sport appeared on the Commonwealth Games programme.
We know there are athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers out there who were part of that event, and we’re keen to get back in touch.

Scottish rowers and coaches have, over the last few years, become increasingly visible in Great Britain teams at all age levels, from J16 up to the full senior team, and across both the classic flatwater and coastal disciplines. While the selection process for this year's GB rowing teams is still in the early stages, Scottish umpires who hold an International licence have already come to the end of their own selection process.

Scottish Rowing has commissioned an independent review of wellbeing and protection across the sport in Scotland.
The review will examine our policies, practices and culture to ensure they are effective in keeping everyone involved in rowing safe and that they reflect current best practice across sport and beyond. This forms part of Scottish Rowing’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement in wellbeing and protection.

As Scottish Rowing prepares for its 150th anniversary (Sesquicentennial) in 2031, we are looking to form a volunteer Archivist Team to help preserve and share the rich history of rowing in Scotland.
Originally founded as the Scottish Amateur Rowing Association (SARA), the organisation became known as Scottish Rowing in the early 2010s as part of a wider modernisation.

Scottish Rowing was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ken McCracken of JRD Partnership on 4 November 2025.
JRD Partnership has served as Scottish Rowing’s accountants for more than two decades, and during that time Ken, as Managing Partner, was not only a trusted professional adviser but also a valued friend and colleague to our organisation. Many within the Scottish Rowing community will have known Ken personally through his long-standing support of Scottish Rowing and his regular attendance at our Annual General Meetings.
Ken will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his wife and three daughters at this difficult time, and with all of his colleagues at JRD Partnership.

Scottish Rowing welcomes the Scottish Government’s decision this week to increase funding for sport in the year ahead, with a clear focus on supporting the work of governing bodies.
Alongside many other sports, Scottish Rowing has been part of the Sports Governing Bodies CEO/COO Forum over the past year, working collectively through the Running on Empty campaign to highlight the real impact of years of standstill funding. The campaign set out, clearly and constructively, how rising costs and flat budgets have placed increasing strain on organisations across the sector.
