Scottish Rowing Project Awards

As 2022 draws to a close Scottish Rowing is delighted to have had two of its community-based projects recognised in local authority awards. 

Firhill Youth Project & Community Sports Hub have been awarded two major awards, the Glasgow Sports ‘Community Project of the Year Award’ and the Pride of Queens Cross ‘Community Health and Well-being Award,’ recently due to their investment in helping the young people in North Glasgow stay active and develop new skills by increasing accessibility to water-sports and other educational activities.

Scotland Rowing Team tops medal table at the Commonwealth Beach Sprints in Namibia

The Scotland Rowing Team topped the medal table at the Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprint Championships in Walvis Bay, Namibia winning gold medals in three out of the four events.

The Namibian Canoe and Rowing Federation, supported by local partners as well as World Rowing and the Commonwealth Rowing Association, hosted the first ever Beach Sprints coastal rowing competition in Africa, on Independence Beach from 2-4 December 2022.

GB Rowing Team Under 19 Early ID Trial

On Saturday it was the turn of the under 19 athletes to row the 5-kilometer course on the River Witham in a bid to show their early season form to GB selectors. Twenty Scottish athletes and their coaches travelled to Boston to race alongside over 200 other boats after qualifying their spot with a 2k ergo performance.

Exceptional racing conditions for the Caley Marina Inverness Fours/Quads and Small Boats Heads on Saturday and Sunday 19th and 20th November 2022

In sunny, cool and mainly windless weather conditions, a record number of over 600 crews from all over Scotland took part in the Caley Marina Inverness Fours/Quads and Small Boats Heads on the superb rowing waters of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness over a course of approximately 4500 metres from Dochgarroch to the Inverness Rowing Club’s Boathouse close to the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge. All crews raced over the full length course with the exception of Novice and the younger Junior 14/15 crews which raced over a slightly shorter course length of approximately 3500 metres.

PB Rush As Scottish Rowers Launch 2023 Trials Campaign

Scotland were well represented at the GB Rowing Team Senior and Under 23 Open Trials held in Boston, Lincolnshire last weekend. Athletes underwent a 2k ergo and 5k water assessment over the course of two days to demonstrate progress and form at this early point in the season.

Christa Diekmann - Commonwealth Rowing Association

We are sorry to report the passing of Christa Diekmann, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Rowing Association.  Christa was the driving force behind Namibia’s hosting of the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Rowing Association’s Beach Sprints (CRABS), which will take place this December in Walvis Bay. 

Christa was also a member of the Namibia Canoe and Rowing Federation and acted as their Secretary-General for many years.  Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

Scotland Rowing Team named for Commonwealth Beach Sprints in Namibia

Scottish Rowing has today announced the Scotland Rowing Team that will compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprints Championship in Walvis Bay, Namibia from 2-4 December.

New Codes of Conduct Published

Scottish Rowing has launched new codes of conduct for coaches, athletes and parents and carers.

These codes of conduct define what is considered positive and appropriate behaviour within Scottish Rowing. They reflect the values held by our sport and outline the expected conduct of members while they take part in the sport or perform their roles. They will also be used as a benchmark to assess whether certain behaviours are acceptable or not acceptable. These codes of conduct apply to all Scottish Rowing members and members of Scottish Rowing clubs.

World Rowing Beach Sprints Finals

Last weekend saw four Scottish rowers competing as part of the GB Rowing Team at the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals in Saundersfoot, Wales.

Stirling Rowing Club's Isla MacCallum only transitioned to this discipline at the Saints Coastal Regatta in May however the 18-year-old Edinburgh University student quickly adapted and was in fine form in the Coastal Under 19 Women’s Solo (CJW1x) event.

Scottish Rowing appoints new Workforce Development Manager | Iain Rice

Scottish Rowing are delighted to announce the appointment of Iain Rice as the new Workforce Development Manager. Iain takes over this role from Andy Barton, who has been the Pathways Manager since March.
