John Higson, the lead coach of women’s rowing at Edinburgh University Boat Club and number two to Head Coach Colin Williamson, has become the first rowing coach from Scotland selected for the newly launched UK Coaching’s Performance Foundation Coach Support programme.
Described as an “18-month long journey” for 38 coaches from eight sports, the programme will be run by the UK Coaching Talent and Performance team in partnership with UK Sport. It is designed specifically to develop coaches working with talented athletes who have the potential to win medals.

We are pleased to announce that nominations for the Scottish Rowing Annual Awards are now being accepted. The closing date for nominations is Friday the 1st of December. The awards will be presented on the 20th of January at a Celebration event, details of this exciting new event will follow soon.

We are running the UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Rowing in Motherwell on the weekends of the 13th & 14th and 27th & 28th of January 2018. To be sure of a place on this course you must have filled in the application form and returned it to Scottish Rowing by the 1st of December.
Becoming a Level 2 Club Coach is not just about coaching rowing; it’s about inspiring rowers to excel and providing a rewarding experience of the sport.
Maybe you are a former rower or someone who loves to teach. Perhaps you are passionate about rowing and would like to develop the sport further. Either way, you might want to consider doing a UKCC Level 2 Club Coach Certificate in Coaching Rowing.
The course will be run over 2 weekends and consists of 36 hours of face to face tutoring and internal assessments.
Dates: 13th & 14th and 27th & 28th of January 2018Venue: Scottish Rowing Centre, Motherwell.Closing Date for Applications: 1st December 2017
