A record nine Scots will compete in what British Rowing terms a “talented squad packed with medal-winning experience” at this week’s Under 23 World Rowing Championships, Rotterdam (21-28 August).

Three Glasgow rowers will be aiming to emulate the achievements of their Team GB counterparts in Rio when they represent the GB Rowing Team at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Rotterdam later this month (21-28 August).

Polly Swann and Karen Bennett, both from Edinburgh, were in the GB women's eight that stormed through to take silver medals behind USA in Saturday's final.
This means that a new record of four Scottish medals were gained over the three days of finals at the Lagoa Stadium.

Lossiemouth's Heather Stanning retained her Olympic crown when she and her partner Helen Glover dominated their coxless pairs final on Friday morning.The British pair were in charge from the first stroke and built a lead in the first half. By the 1500-metre mark they were four seconds ahead of the field and could afford to watch the others scramble for the minor medals as they stayed out of trouble at the head of the field.

Katherine Grainger won British rowing's first medal of the Olympic regatta and the last one of her career when, along with partner Vicky Thornley, she took a hard-fought silver in Thursday's double sculls final.
By Grainger's own admission, she and Thornley had the most tortuous route to Rio, missing out on initial selection and only being added to the squad a matter of weeks ago. This followed a season where the duo had failed to medal and posted some lacklustre performances. But there was nothing lacklustre about today's race.

It might be Scotland's newest Coastal Rowing Club but Eastern Amateur (EACRC) succeeded in finishing second in its first ever Skiff World Championships last week at Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland.

Inverness's Alan Sinclair and Olympic champion Katherine Grainger became the fourth and fifth Scots to make it to finals in the Olympic rowing regatta, with solid performances in Tuesday's semi-finals.

The first two Scottish rowers in action in Saturday's opening day of racing, Alan Sinclair and Katherine Grainger, successfully progressed to their semi-finals on Tuesday - both finished second in their opening heats on a day when conditions in the middle part of the course caused real havoc, with a capsize and boat-stopping crabs happening throughout the racing programme.

Scottish Rowing's plans for the next 4 years (2017-2021) are now being developed and it is important that our members have the opportunity to input to this process.
The key themes have already been sent to club secretaries for circulation and comment within the club but in addition we are holding 3 consultation sessions across Scotland, hosted by Mike Morrice, President of Scottish Rowing.
These will take the form of a short presentation setting out the key themes for the next 4 years followed by a Q&A. An overview of these key themes is available to view here.
